Ford's new SUV, which will be introduced in 2025, is intended to compete primarily with the Dacia Duster. It is an all-new model that is positioned as the successor to the now-defunct Ford EcoSport.
These are turbulent times for Ford in Europe. One of the leading car manufacturers in North America has to deal with many challenges. The decision to abandon iconic models such as Fiesta, Focus and Mondeo still continues to cause controversy.
And no wonder. The American-born brand is determined to maintain its commitment to exclusively electric mobility. But in Europe, electric vehicles have been out of favor for some time, mainly due to weak demand. And now everyone, including Ford, must deal with the reality of the market.
Ford has created an ambitious roadmap. A strategic plan that, however, had to be revised to adapt to the real demand that exists in the European market. Because the adoption of electric cars is happening slower than expected.
Ford will therefore combine the arrival of new electric vehicles such as the recently launched Ford Puma Gen-E with new ICE vehicles. So, Ford's new ambitions for 2025 are linked to exactly such an ICE SUV. A model that is called upon to play a leading role for the brand on the Old Continent.
At the beginning of this year, there was a sad farewell. The Ford EcoSport left the dealers through the back door. Ford's cheapest SUV ended its commercial journey after a truly agonizing 2023, during which aggressive discounts were made to keep sales at an acceptable level. Now the brand has already decided what will happen after the departure of the EcoSport.
The leakage of some patents has revealed Ford's plans to launch a successor to the aforementioned SUV. This is a completely new SUV that will lead the brand's innovation in 2025. The successor to the EcoSport will be a reality. A model that will also bear the stamp “Made in Spain“, specifically in Ford's facilities located in Almussafes.
The successor to the EcoSport will also be positioned in the B-SUV segment. Therefore, it will share a segment with the Ford Puma. The brand is not worried about the possibility of the two models competing with each other, since they will have a very different approach. Furthermore, let's remember that the missing EcoSport and the best-selling Puma, during the time when they shared a place in the dealerships, coexisted without any additional problems.
The car will show a rough and adventurous design. It will also be equipped with new internal combustion engines. And although there was speculation about the possibility of a 100% electric version, we must bear in mind that for the time being Ford has decided to concentrate its production of electric vehicles in Cologne (Germany) and Craiova (Romania).
Therefore, the innovation from Spain will be an ICE car. The successor to the EcoSport, whose name is still unknown, will be presented in mid-2025, will be characterized by a low price and classic internal combustion engines.
