The division of the global news agency Bloomberg, specializing in electric vehicles, has published new calculations of the current price of traction batteries for electric vehicles.

According to the study, the prices of battery cells have fallen significantly over the past year. First of all, this is due to the increase in the production volume of these components. An additional contribution is made by the decline in the prices of some raw materials and metals necessary for their production.

Currently, the average specific price of traction batteries is $115 per 1 kWh, which is 20% less than in 2023. At the same time, in order for the price of an electric car to be equal to the price of a model with an internal combustion engine of the same class, it is necessary to reach a level below $ 100 per 1 kWh.

And this has already happened, but at this stage only in China, where electric cars are sold at prices comparable to their gasoline counterparts. To reach this value on a global scale, it takes less than a year - but only on condition that the authorities of different countries do not hinder the process.

The fact is that with the change of political forces, subsidies and incentives for electric cars may weaken, and this is already a fact in many countries. This, in turn, leads to a decrease in sales volumes, since the mass production of traction batteries contributes to a decrease in their price.

Bloomberg experts have calculated that if there are no significant changes in the policy for the promotion of electric cars, then by 2030 the specific price of traction batteries will drop to $69 per 1 kWh, which will make electric cars cheaper than their fuel-powered "colleagues".
