Surprisingly or not, the Russian automobile market became the fourth in Europe. In 2024, the Russian automobile market took fourth place in the European ranking in terms of sales volume, with 1.57 million new passenger cars sold in Russia. This result shows a significant growth in sales - by 48.4 percent compared to the previous year, according to the analytical agency Autostat.
The leading positions in the European ranking continue to be occupied by Germany (2.8 million cars), Great Britain (1.9 million cars) and France (1.7 million cars). The top five is completed by Italy with a result of 1.55 million cars sold.
The leaders in sales in Europe Germany, Great Britain and France almost maintained the sales levels from a year earlier. In Germany, 2.8 million cars were sold, which is a very slight decrease of 1 percent. The United Kingdom reported a growth of 2.6 percent with 1.9 million cars sold, while France recorded a decrease of 3.2 percent to 1.7 million cars. In Italy, 1.55 million cars were sold, with sales there decreasing slightly, by only 0.05 percent.
Previously, experts predicted a significant decline in the Russian car market. According to the forecasts of the Association of European Business, by the end of 2025, sales of new cars and light commercial vehicles in Russia were to decrease by 15 percent, but apparently China's intervention in the Russian car market was not taken into account.
