"At the moment, commissioning works are being carried out on the systems of the first power unit. According to the intergovernmental agreement, we have 7 years [before the start of commercial electricity production]. We received a license to build the first power unit in April 2018, so the commissioning date of the first power unit is assumed to be April 2025. In the first unit, most of the main construction and installation works have been completed, commissioning is underway in operation of all equipment and systems", quotes Sesemin newspaper "Millet".
According to him, “the work is carried out in full compliance with the previously approved schedule”. He explained that "an operation is underway to stretch special steel cables in a protective container". A nuclear fuel loading device is being installed. “The main parts of the turbine installation are located in the engine room. They are located in the places provided in the design project. The installation of the pipeline is underway, a total of 3000 tons of pipes will be installed. In addition, work continues actively in other facilities of the nuclear power plant, some of the work is at the final stage. This is a water treatment plant, a seawater treatment plant, laboratories”, Sezemin said.
He compared a nuclear power plant to a puzzle, noting that at this stage “the rest of the pieces come together”. All the work, he said, “is being strictly checked by the Turkish Nuclear Regulatory Board and other organizations.“
