Social networks play an increasingly important role in travel choices. For Gen Z and millennials, it's TikTok and Instagram, and it's no surprise that they're among the most travel-inspiring. According to a study conducted by Booking.com, 39% of travelers worldwide use social media to gather ideas for their next vacation.
However, nothing beats good old word of mouth, with 45% getting advice from friends and family for their next excursion.
Thirdly, people choose their next travel destination by visiting specialized travel sites - 35%.
It is interesting to note that 29% decide where to travel by traveling online with the help of Google View Street - 24% and 21% are influenced about the destination to visit by TV shows.
Traditional tour operators are far behind in the rankings for sources of travel ideas at 17%.
In the last two places are magazines and podcasts, respectively with 14% and 10%.
