The Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan is negotiating with "Gazprom" on possible supplies of up to 10 billion cubic meters of commercial gas per year for gasification of the northern and eastern regions of the republic, the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan reported.

„Today, the ministry is negotiating with PJSC „Gazprom“ on the supply of commercial gas in the amount of up to 10 billion cubic meters per year for gasification of the northern and eastern regions of the country: North Kazakhstan, Akmola, Pavlodar, East Kazakhstan, Abay regions and Astana“, the ministry reported.

As the department notes, „issues of concluding a long-term contract and the price of commercial gas remain open“. If agreements are reached, the sources of financing for the project, the volume of investments and the start dates of construction will be determined after the development of the design and estimate documentation.

In February 2025, the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Almasadam Satkaliev noted the high dynamics of negotiations with Russia on the possible gasification of the northern and eastern regions of the republic. According to him, Kazakhstan is considering two scenarios for gasification of these regions. The first option is a transit gas pipeline Russia-China with the possibility of receiving up to 10 billion cubic meters of gas for Kazakh consumers. As the minister explained, the decision on this gas pipeline depends on the main initiators - Russia and China. The second option is the construction of the second, third and fourth stages of the Saryarka gas pipeline. Preliminary feasibility studies are being conducted for this project by the company "Kazakhgaz".
