Two-thirds of Canadians have started buying fewer goods made in the United States, and 55% have stopped using the American Amazon marketplace, Bloomberg reported, citing a study by the Canadian company Leger Marketing.

According to its results, Canadian consumers' refusal of American goods and services is associated with a negative reaction to US President Donald Trump's behavior towards their country. Against this background, Canadians have also begun to share information with each other about alternatives to American goods from domestic manufacturers, as well as postponing or canceling trips to the United States.

At the same time, about 83% of Canadians fear that Trump will use tariffs and sanctions as tools to pressure Canada to push the country towards closer and more formalized relations with the United States. About 75% of Canadians believe the Canadian government should impose retaliatory tariffs on American goods.

Overall, 77% of Canadians have a negative view of Donald Trump, while only 14% of Canadians have a positive view of him.

A total of 1,500 Canadian adults participated in the Leger marketing survey.

Trump has repeatedly expressed the opinion that many Canadians want their country to become the 51st state of the United States. He believes that such a union would bring economic stability to Canada and protect it from external threats, which, according to the American leader, come from, among others, Russia and China. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau responded by saying that his country will never become the 51st state of the United States.
