Turkey, the world's sixth-largest lemon exporter, has temporarily suspended lemon imports from April 8 due to the need to regulate domestic demand and recent frosts in areas where citrus fruits are mainly harvested, the Ministry of Trade announced.
“Due to the cold weather and frosts in a number of regions of our country recently, the need to ensure a balance between supply and demand for agricultural products and food products, as well as maintaining price dynamics in the domestic and international markets, in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture, a decision was made to temporarily suspend lemon exports from April 8“, the statement said.
According to the Turkish Ministry of Trade, frosts have recently occurred in the Mediterranean provinces of Adana, Mersin and Hatay.
Turkey exported lemons worth 357 million USD in 2024. Russia is one of the three countries where citrus fruits are supplied the most.
