The BSP in the parliament is divided into two almost equal camps, and the processes of splitting in the party started after the resignation of the chairman Kornelia Ninova after the electoral collapse of the vote on June 9. The coalition "BSP for Bulgaria" received only 151,560 votes, equal to 7.06%. The Socialists took only 19 seats in the new National Assembly. Kaloyan Metodiev entered the parliament, but “surprisingly fast” became an independent deputy. What is going on with the socialists? Kaloyan Metodiev spoke to FACTS.
- Mr. Metodiev, how did you suddenly become the “big“ BSP problem. You even divided the party…
- I have not divided anything. I told the truth about the planned coup, about the sabotage of the campaign, about the Sofia and Varna clientele, about the business interests and dependencies of the coup plotters. There's no way they'll forgive me. And here the question is not about the BSP, but about the state and the party system. Such people have no place in politics. This is my personal opinion. I have no intention of changing it or giving in. These are the most anti-left and anti-social people in terms of ideology and life that I have ever seen. Most are just beating their chests – “I am a third, fourth generation socialist, do you know who my father is…“ etc. The left idea arose as a reaction against privilege and hereditary rights. Even during the French Revolution. No barons, counts and their children should enjoy social benefits by right. One of the three words is equality - equal start, equal opportunity. These are the antithesis of the left and the social by virtue of theory and practice of the last 300 years. Not to mention their being oligarchs, businesses worth millions, exploitation of the past, retrogradeness... In the campaign, I saw how some of them lied to ordinary honest members at meetings. And last but not least, they push unification gum for unification's sake. They are either uneducated or liars. Can do both. The conversation in this idea space begins with the idea of class struggle. Life is a struggle. Of course, in different variations over the centuries. I have not read about fanatical repetition of unifications, unities, etc.
- Still waiting to take the oath and already excluded from the BSP parliamentary group. What happened?
- Well, they expelled me by force, apparatus and in violation of statutes, CEC decision, laws and the Constitution. It was like a boulevard novel. Gutsanov is standing over a deputy from Shumen with his hand raised and looking at her face while voting, and their deputy from Sliven is smoking a cigar, security guards have arrived outside… Pishman mobsters. They behaved rudely and disrespectfully to Cornelia Ninova, who called on them for reason, for legality, for observing rules, for respect and several times for preserving dignity. He reads them regulations… A voice in the wilderness. They did not give reasons to me, Svilenski and Chenchev, who asked them: “Why?”. To this day, those who voted for my exclusion have not given reasons. Nor did they say anything at the meeting. Not even in the past weeks. Possessed of revenge, malice and legal insanity. For me personally, it's better that way. I could not stand to have this group as my guide, to dictate my policy and conduct. In my eyes, they don't have an ounce of authority, posture, vision, idea, upbringing... They were gathered by virtue of a coup d'état's greed and by the public procurement statute. Such deserve only empty contempt. They've done the dirty work and are now useless. They weigh and no one will want them.
- From BSP MP to independent MP… It happened very quickly…
- Lightning fast. Literally before the oath, I was expelled, which is a precedent in parliamentarism. Out of stupidity, they assigned themselves and me a place in history.
For them as the apotheosis of stupidity, and for me as a statistical fact of the first excluded before it was accepted.
Anyway. Gone. I can see the number of independents growing, so soon I may have a whole group in my role as their doyen (laughs). As an independent MP, I have the freedom to watch from the back row what is happening – the dynamics of relationships, body language, group behavior patterns (we have an apiary), how some people get used to it, how they go around the room offering others. I'm only two weeks old – I'm still learning how parliament works, how procedures work, etc. And to add, because the yellow media and the coup plotters are using my name to support a first and second term. I categorically have no such intentions and desires. I voted against Nazaryan's candidacy from GERB. I do not participate in any negotiations and agreements. I follow my own path.
- What processes are going on in BSP. Kornelia Ninova remains an MP, and the election of a leader is pending…
- In the BSP, processes of usurpation and revanchism are going on through apparatus grips, falsified in quorums. These cannot step on Nineveh's little toe. They make some brownish moves, they introduce her bills from past meetings and re-sign them as their own, they behave like infantiles, as after every speech - they go to pat each other and hit their fists as if they scored a point in some kind of match. The contrast between the MPs around her and the coup plotters is very stark. In every sense, but mostly as education, competence and morality. She was the person who over the years kept the anti-GERB and anti-Borisov line, anti-DPS, Radev used them as a rubber stamp, prevented the party from being torn apart by the various lobbies and their interests, gave them an additional perspective and life after the collapse of the office Oresharski… So the natural leader is only Cornelia Ninova. The revolutionaries have no leader, no morals, no competence – therefore, they have no future.
- You said that “you wouldn't be surprised if things didn't stop there”. What's next…
- They can only hold things apparatusically and structurally. They can no longer go to elections. They will not enter the parliament. They are shaking with fear.
Cowardly people are vindictive, dangerous, prone to meanness.
I see that they accept absurd decisions of the Control Commission that Ninova could not be a candidate. They want to shut her down. They unite with Rumen Petkov, Tanya Doncheva, Mikhail Mikov, Maslarova and other great authorities. What to comment on them. They are exhibited every day.
- Borislav Gutsanov called on you to leave the National Assembly… How will you approach?
- The person who is notorious in Varna has a much lower score than Cornelia Ninova and I in Sofia. I am second in the number of preferences in the three Sofia constituencies. And in conditions of constant compromising attacks, brutal sabotage and provocations during the entire campaign by their coup group. People from the list never appeared in the campaign, others worked for Grigorova, others imitated activities, raised scandals at meetings. The same hero from Varna was responsible for the organization of the campaign throughout the country. To such a request I can say two things. First, to buy a mirror. And secondly, I want him to leave parliament immediately, because he has tragic results, a tragic campaign, a tragic coup, tragic parliamentary behavior, a tragic rating and a tragicomic violation of all norms with my exclusion. It's not even worth commenting on. His career is over.
- Should we expect a coup in the BSP?
- No, because it has already taken place.
- With the first, with the second or with the third mandate. How are we most likely to have an office?
- The key to what is happening is in DPS. Some processes of regrouping, exclusions, serious internal tension are taking place there. Either with the first or the third. But I don't see understanding, common sense, enthusiasm. As I told you – the number of independent MPs is growing, which is an indicator of instability. Borisov is fighting like a trapped animal just to not be in an independent coalition with the DPS. Looking for an approach to DB and PP. Peevski has brutally emancipated himself. For the third mandate, there are already requests from "Vazrazhdane", the coup-makers from the BSP, ITN and "Velichie". The intersections are fewer and fewer. It is good to have a government that has strong parliamentary control with some short program and a short horizon. As for stabilizing the state.
For now, we are more likely to go to elections.
Probably in October. In general, this will be a disaster for the political system and especially for the party system. But the situation in the parliament changes by the hour. In summary - there is serious tension in politics and it will have to come out somewhere. A lot will happen by the end of the year. We live in interesting times.
- Is there something exotic about thinking about a minority government…
- Yes. There is no way such a model will work with this fragmented and radicalized parliament. A stable minority government can exist with some of your 100-110 deputies. GERB's proposal is political suicide or delusion. Don't blame them for throwing us into the seventh election in a row. And to show their dwindling electorate that they have governing potential. It does not strike me as a serious political proposal.
