API: Drive prepared, snow is coming - 1

Agency “Road infrastructure“ appeals to drivers who have a journey ahead of them in the coming days to hit the road with cars prepared for winter conditions. Meteorologists' forecasts are for worsening weather, lower temperatures and snowfall.

For tomorrow – November 12, a yellow warning code has been set for dangerous weather in North-West and Central Bulgaria in the regions of Vidin, Montana, Vratsa, Sofia Region, Sofia City, Pernik, Lovech, Gabrovo, Veliko Tarnovo, Targovishte, Sliven, Stara Zagora and Plovdiv. On the night of Tuesday in the high mountainous parts of Northwestern Bulgaria, the rain will change to snow. Forecasts for Central Bulgaria are that a snow cover will form in Stara Planina and the Pre-Balkans, which in some places may reach up to 10 cm.

Regional road authorities are ready to take the necessary actions to treat the pavements in the high mountain areas and the passes where there are prerequisites for slippery and icy conditions especially early in the morning when the temperatures are lower. The goal is to start the preventive and then the snow removal activities as quickly as possible to ensure the passability of the roads. The priority is the motorways, the busiest routes on the first-class and second-class road network and the passages providing connections between Northern and Southern Bulgaria.

Drivers must drive with caution and appropriate speed, keeping the required distance and not making sudden maneuvers. The blocking of traffic by vehicles that are not prepared for winter conditions makes it difficult for all other drivers to travel and the work of snow removal equipment.

All citizens and transport companies can receive information about the current road situation and the winter maintenance of the republican network from the website of API: www.api.bg, as well as at any time of the day by calling tel. 0700 130 20 in API.

In the agency, a Situation Center operates year-round, 24 hours a day, which collects and summarizes data on the state of the republic's roads.
