Trump Picks Florida Congressman Mike Walz as National Security Advisor VIDEO - 1

US President-elect Donald Trump has picked Florida Congressman Mike Waltz as his future national security adviser, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters, quoted by BTA.

Fifty-year-old Waltz is the first “green beret“ of the US Armed Forces, elected to Congress and a prominent critic of China.

A Trump-loyal Republican congressman, he also served in the National Guard as a colonel, and graduated with honors from the Virginia Military Institute before committing to the military.

Waltz has criticized China's actions in the Asia-Pacific region and stressed the need for the United States to be prepared for potential conflict in the region, according to Reuters.

After a 27-year career in the armed forces, including missions in Afghanistan, the Middle East and Africa, for which he was awarded the Medal of Valor, Walz also held positions as a political adviser in the White House and the Pentagon.

Previously, Trump said he would appoint former congressman Lee Zeldin to head the US Environmental Agency, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

„It will provide fair and swift deregulation measures that will be implemented in a way that unleashes the power of American companies while maintaining the highest environmental standards, including the cleanest air and water on the planet” , wrote Trump on his social network “Truth Social“.

The US president-elect is likely to try to change many of the agency's rules on fossil fuel use, including limiting carbon emissions from power plants and reducing harmful emissions from cars, according to Reuters.
