Radev in Baku: Everyone must ensure that energy security is a key priority - 1

President Rumen Radev spoke at the session of the World Conference on Climate Change in the capital of Azerbaijan - Baku. There, he stated that extreme weather events threaten not only people and their livelihoods, but regional and global peace and security.

At the summit, the president presented the Bulgarian position on the climate.

"Continuity in actions is key to achieving the ambitious but balanced climate goals set in the Paris Agreement, in the complex geopolitical moment," said President Rumen Radev in his national speech at the world forum.

"The main outcome of this conference that we expect is the achievement of a new collective goal in the field of finance. This new goal must secure finance from all possible sources – both public and private. It must also meet the needs of the financing of measures to ease the transition and adaptation, as well as focus on the most vulnerable countries", said the head of state.

He noted that everyone must ensure that energy security is a key priority.

"Bulgaria is determined not only to be part of energy cooperation initiatives in its region in Central and Eastern Europe, but also something more – to strengthen ties between EU countries and those outside it, which share our priorities for climate neutrality, a fair energy transition, energy security and technological innovation - in the direction of reducing emissions," said Radev.

Rumen Radev called for continued support for science and education in the field of climate. And he stated Bulgaria's firm commitment to the goals of the climate policy. And earlier at a discussion in the Bulgarian pavilion, he announced the ambition of our country to actively participate in climate diplomacy.

Within the world forum, President Radev hosted a high-level discussion. The participants discussed the possibilities for the development of a competitive economy against the background of the EU's ambitions for zero carbon emissions by 2050.

The President reminded that frequent natural disasters require decisive action from everyone.

"Climate change is already threatening not only people and their livelihoods, not only nature and its diversity, but also regional and global peace and security.

And I believe that the way to achieve sustainable solutions in the fight against climate change is through the exchange of experience and the transfer of knowledge,", pointed out Radev.

In conclusion, the head of state noted that only together we can achieve a better and more sustainable future for ourselves and for the generations after us.
