The National Revenue Agency is checking the property status of 551 owners of luxury cars. At the end of the first six months of this year, 474 of the inspections were completed, as a result of which discrepancies were found between the income and property of some of the inspected persons for 5,150 million. This is announced in a report of the Ministry of Finance on the activity in the first half of 2024. In the course of the control proceedings, 44 of the inspected owners of motor vehicles of a high price class hastened to submit corrective declarations for their incomes and paid additional taxes, writes "Now". For six, however, acts were drawn up for large-scale administrative violations.
NAS starts in August 2023. a campaign to scrutinize selected luxury car owners whose incomes declared on tax returns are not sufficient to afford such expensive acquisitions. The checks are ongoing, the revenue agency states.
The tax authorities also carry out inspections of leased luxury cars. After an analysis of leased high-priced motor vehicles, 57 control proceedings have been assigned to date to verify the income and property of their users, the report states. Audits of 8 lessees were appointed, and by the end of June, 5 of them were completed with established obligations for hidden income tax in the amount of 275 thousand in total. BGN
Another nearly 400 Bulgarians - owners of expensive properties (over BGN 750 thousand each), acquired in the period 2019-2022, are also subject to tax audits. In the first half of 2024 124 inspections and audits were completed, and discrepancies between income and acquired property were found for 12 persons in the amount of 1,836 million. BGN In the course of the inspections, 10 corrective declarations were submitted, with which the owners of expensive properties declared the "forgotten" income and have paid the taxes on them.
Strengthened control is also exercised by the NRA over persons who have not declared income from commercial activity on the Internet. In the first half of this year, 144 audit proceedings and 2,615 inspections were assigned to 129 electronic traders. From the completed 8 audits, additional tax and insurance liabilities were established in the amount of 67.6 million. BGN, the report states.
The tax authorities have also targeted influencers who attract followers on social networks and earn from advertisements. Individuals who create content on the Internet - YouTubers, vloggers, independent journalists - are also subject to inspections. From the start of the tax campaign to clarify these incomes in 2023. by mid-2024 30 proceedings have been ordered against popular personalities on the Internet, and 15 of them have already been concluded.
Undeclared income was found in 13 of the closed proceedings. Almost all of these persons voluntarily declared their income after being invited to do so in the course of the checks carried out on them, with the taxes and mandatory insurance contributions being paid in a total amount of about BGN 80,000.
