At the age of 76, Blagovest Punev died suddenly. One of the most prominent lawyers of our time – former supreme and constitutional judge, former chairman of the Arbitration Court at the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, he passed away after devoting 56 years of his life to law, writes "Lex".

Blagovest Punev left a lasting mark not only in civil law, but also in constitutional law. Actively participates in the discussion of the latest amendments to the Constitution.

He was born on June 23, 1948. He chose law in 1967, when it was a "dying discipline". Punev is the first lawyer in his family, but not the last – his son Anastas Punev is a lecturer at the Faculty of Law of the Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" and also practices in the field of civil law.

Blagovest Punev began his career as a judge in the District Court – Kardjali (1975-1978), then in the District Court – Pazardzhik (1979-1986). In 1986 becomes the deputy chairman of the District Court – Pazardzhik, and since 1990 is a judge in the Supreme Court. He was also the head of the Civil College of the Supreme Court of Cassation. In the period from 1998 until 2003 was a member of the Supreme Judicial Council. And since 2006 until 2015 was a judge in the Constitutional Court. In 2017 became the chairman of the Arbitration Court at the BCCI.

As a Supreme Court judge, Punev is among the leading specialists who shaped his restitution practice. He shared that he and his colleagues were aware of their huge responsibility, because the law is laconic and meager as a regulation, and the decisions of the Supreme Court on specific cases were of great importance for practice.
