The police union has announced its readiness to protest if their salaries are not increased from the beginning of 2025. According to the draft budget, employees in the Ministry of Interior should receive higher salaries. If the Cabinet does not accept the budget or drastic changes are imposed, the union will take effective strike action.
On “The Day Begins“ on BNT, Genadi Tenev from the management board of the Trade Union Federation of Employees in the Ministry of Interior explained that if the agreement on salaries in the sector in February is not fulfilled, the police will go on a peaceful protest.
"We have no claims as to how much the salaries should be increased. We want what has been achieved in the Law to be respected – linking salaries to the average salary for the country for the second quarter of the previous year. That is, the second quarter of 2024 is taken as a base – the lowest salaries are determined on this basis“, explained Genadi Tenev from the management board of the Trade Union Federation of Ministry of Interior Employees.
The union still hopes that they will have fair salaries from January 1, 2025.
"We have always emphasized over the years that working conditions are not good. Things are improving, but piecemeal", added Genadi Tenev.
He is categorical that if the agreed salary increase in the sector is dropped. the police will go on a peaceful protest.
