The funds for assisted reproduction activities have been secured. This was stated at the beginning of today's government meeting by Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev in connection with speculative claims that the activities will remain underfunded due to the redirection of money to other areas. The Prime Minister explained that the budget procedure allows unused resources from one budget to be directed to another, without jeopardizing the financing of activities that have already begun.
It also became clear that in the budget for next year, the caretaker government has allocated 3.6 million leva more for assisted reproduction - a total of 25.6 million leva. “There is money, we support couples who take such actions, we hope that the government after us will continue to do so“, said Glavchev. Whether this resource will remain the same size will become clear after the vote on the proposed budget framework in the National Assembly.
The Prime Minister will reaffirm Bulgaria's position regarding North Macedonia at the upcoming EU-Western Balkans summit in Brussels today. The position is principled and was agreed with the so-called 2022 compromise, signed by all member states, incl. by the candidate Republic of North Macedonia. The Prime Minister commented that it is not normal for candidate states to set conditions for members, but quite the opposite - they should fulfill the criteria for membership in the community. “The least obstacle facing the Republic of North Macedonia is the 2022 compromise, if at all this can be an obstacle, they continue to fail to meet other requirements“, noted Dimitar Glavchev.
The Prime Minister once again congratulated everyone who worked over the years for Bulgaria's membership in Schengen with the final step taken, namely our admission from January 1, 2025 and by land. He recalled that our country joined the Schengen area by air and sea on March 31 of this year. In the last nine months, the two caretaker governments with Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev and an almost identical composition have done their job and full admission to Schengen and by land is the greatest recognition of this.
