The "Road Infrastructure" Agency is also partially to blame for the tragic accident on the "Struma" highway, in which 45 people from the Republic of North Macedonia died. This is stated in the decision of the District Court in Pernik.
However, the Road Agency announced that it will appeal the opinion. “The court decision has not yet been served on the "Road Infrastructure" Agency. After its official receipt, the Agency will appeal the decision before the Sofia Court of Appeal,” the Agency indicates.
“In its legal defense, RIA completely disputes the allegations in the claim as unproven and unfounded. In this case, the court is the one that is authorized to determine the degree of complicity and has set out its considerations in detail in its reasoning in the Decision. In connection with the incident in question, pre-trial proceedings were also conducted, in which the guilt of the bus driver was established beyond doubt. In this regard, the RIA's claim that the incident occurred due to the driver's fault is also supported. The same is confirmed by the conclusion of the experts on the complex forensic technical and medical expertise heard and accepted, RIA added.
