Yankulov: Six ministers from this government have felt the whip of the prosecutor's office - 1

The prices of electricity, bread and fuel depend on how the institutions function, said Andrey Yankulov, former Deputy Minister of Justice and Internal Affairs and an expert at the Anti-Corruption Fund, in an interview with the Bulgarian National Radio.

He answered the question of why people are more interested in prices than in judicial reform.

"When antitrust legislation does not work properly, this will lead to higher prices, where there are cartels and no one to react. These are connections that will try to be neglected, not to talk, so that we continue to be in a timelessness and reforms are not made. Because, if they are made, they will affect the people who govern behind the scenes, the essential power of the state. And they will not have an interest in changing the situation because they hold this behind-the-scenes power," he explained the connection between prices and non-working institutions.

On the support for the government by Dogan's MRF, he commented: "It is caused by the desire to leave their members alone by law enforcement agencies. We have seen serious actions by the KPKONPI and the prosecutor's office. And it is more than logical that since these support the ruling party, the attacks of the state's repressive organs on them will decrease".

According to him, when there are no working institutions in which there is basic trust that they will act according to the law, we reach this result - an unacceptable situation for society.

He sees a solution in a serious reform of the justice system and law enforcement institutions:

"In this government, 6 of the ministers have felt the whip of the prosecutor's office. This is another example – It shows us as a society that a serious reform is needed in the way public power is exercised and the institutions charged with repressive activities. Everyone sees this and that is why reform is needed.

Yankulov said that in order to make this serious reform, "there must be a public consensus that such a reform is necessary".

"And if they don't convince us, so that we can function like a normal state, there is nothing to show us", the expert from the Anti-Corruption Fund is convinced.
