Taxi drivers will protest today in front of Terminal 2 at Sofia Airport against the new traffic organization, BNT reported.

It came into effect on January 9. The cars will gather at 12:30, and the action has been coordinated with the Sofia Municipality and the Sofia Directorate of Internal Affairs, announced Krasimir Tsvetkov, chairman of the National Taxi Union.

The taxi industry will express its dissatisfaction with the introduced requirement that each subsequent entry of a car within 60 minutes, carried out after the first, must be paid.

Colleagues are prevented from doing their jobs, said Tsvetkov. According to him, the restriction may lead to harm to customers, as well as to affecting the quality of service.

From January 9 this year, every traveler who wants to reach Terminal 2 by car will pass through barrier systems that register the license plates of the cars. The new system will also introduce the concept of the "Hug Zone" - an area specially designed for a short free stay, in which car drivers can drop off or pick up passengers without blocking traffic. In the zone, drivers will have 10 minutes of free stay in front of the terminal building to drop off or pick up passengers. The minimum time between two free entries is 60 minutes, Sofia Airport informed.
