"The claims of Bulgarian citizens investigated for espionage in the UK about their connections with the "highest echelons" of power in Bulgaria, which they themselves boasted about in their communication, are not based on any facts and are as absurd as the manipulative abuse of them". This is stated in a position statement from the press secretariat of the Presidency.
The statement from "Dondukov" 2 is on the occasion of the publication in the British newspaper "Independent", which claims that the three Bulgarians accused of espionage on the Island had connections with politicians from the highest echelon of Bulgaria.
"We also recall that the competent Bulgarian security services, which work in close cooperation with their British colleagues on the case, announced only a month ago in response to inquiries from the media and a member of parliament that they do not have information to confirm the allegations of connections between those investigated for espionage in the UK and politicians from Bulgaria," the press secretariat of the head of state also stated.
