President Rumen Radev called for categorical action against “political and oligarchic influence on the judiciary“.
During a discussion on the topic “Where to with the judiciary from here?“, organized by the Bulgarian Institute for Legal Initiatives, the head of state stated that the new parliament and the cabinet must take seriously the task of new personnel appointments in Themis, bTV reported.
Rumen Radev emphasized that the topic of the Prosecutor General may not be on the agenda, but it is important for the people.
The head of state also said that the affairs in the judiciary have remained without an institutional response, which is “a brutal demonstration of impunity and helplessness“.
One of the most important issues is the interference of the prosecutor's office in the political process, the president was categorical and reminded that the Supreme Judicial Council is working for another year with an expired mandate.
“I will start with a well-known quote: “You will know them by their deeds“. I will allow myself to paraphrase it: “You will know them by their fears“. The moment I accepted the invitation to participate in this forum, a real hysteria broke out among those who feel comfortable in the status quo of the judiciary. For whom the network of the “Notary“, the intimate atmosphere of the “Eight Dwarfs“ and the sticky timelessness that tightly enveloped the CorpBank case, as well as electoral justice, are the vitally necessary guarantor of favoritism and impunity. The prosecutor's office, mostly because of politicians, has become an instrument of state governance,“ said Radev.
