What we understood is that there is no 18 billion leva hole in the budget, but perhaps this was a move that was supposed to prepare us for the heavy measures that are ahead, and the story will be that the hole is gone because they have filled it.
This was what political scientist Kaloyan Velchev told the Bulgarian National Radio and commented:
"We will see whether the eurozone is still a strategic goal of GERB with the budget that will be submitted and with the government's readiness to take the appropriate actions for our admission to the eurozone. This is precisely the test of whether the "Zhelyazkov" cabinet has the political will to take the country through the necessary reforms so that we can develop as a European country, or does not have this will and intends to act as a cabinet of timelessness and intends to consolidate a status quo against which a serious amount of dissatisfaction has accumulated".
According to the political scientist, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov and the new majority in parliament have the peace and comfort to act, since only PP-DB are real opposition and criticize the work of the government, while MPS-NN and "Vazrazhdane" criticize not the ruling party, but PP-DB, as if they are still in power.
"Delyan Peevski continues his repositioning. He no longer wants to be Euro-Atlantic, this is no longer advantageous for him. He is now a person who fights for the good of the people. ... Peevski is getting very close to Kostadinov in terms of speech. Which is very good for him, but not good for "Vazrazhdane" and at this point it is not profitable for them to take joint actions with the MRF-NN, which continues to provide the comfort of the new government"
"Vazrazhdane" feel good in their role as an opposition party, but the problem is that they are causing great damage to Bulgarian parliamentarism, Velchev emphasized.
"The election of new representatives in the regulators and the presidential elections seem to determine the calendar of the new government. The rush for the regulators arouses suspicion of political agreements", he commented.
According to Kaloyan Velchev, Boyko Borisov's statement that the judicial reform has been completed is key:
"And the Minister of Justice is from GERB. So it seems that there is no will for judicial reform on the part of the ruling party.
President Rumen Radev is repositioning himself towards the new majority, the political scientist believes, and predicts that "at this stage, a conflict between them will not escalate, because a large part of Radev's previous enemies are outside the government."
