„The idea of a price ceiling has not worked anywhere. This leads to a gray economy. With this proposal in the Bulgarian parliament they want to hide the non-working regulators”. This was stated by economist and PP-DB MP Martin Dimitrov regarding the idea of imposing a ceiling on food markups, quoted by Nova TV.
„Yes, Bulgaria has a problem with prices. Some prices of butter, milk, eggs are higher than those in other European countries. Where prices are low, there is competition, there is a working economy. They chose these regulators – such as the CPC, the Consumer Commission and they are very weak. In addition to working regulators, we need incentives for small producers. "With left-wing price controls, nothing has been achieved," Dimitrov added.
