Two separate price bills have already been submitted to the National Assembly's registry, Nova TV reports.
The first is by the „BSP - United Left” and is aimed at limiting markups. The coalition proposes that the measure be for large retailers - with a turnover of over 10 million leva per year. The list of food products that fall under this regulation should be determined by the government and each retailer should be obliged to offer at least one item of each type of food product with a limited markup. The condition is that these are not imitation products.
The second bill is by the „DPS - New Beginning”. It is for limiting profits and controlling the prices of essential food products. The texts envisage setting a maximum price level. Then lowering prices to a certain level and announcing it in advance.
A reaction followed from the Association for Modern Trade, which includes some of the large retail chains. According to the organization, the projects envisage direct administrative intervention in pricing. They believe that such a measure is counterproductive for both consumers and other market participants. They claim that this will deepen the problems and create new ones.
