"Measure": 57% of Bulgarians are against the euro - 1

A sociological survey by the "Measure" agency shows that over 57% of respondents were "in principle" "against" the question of whether Bulgaria should adopt the euro, while 39% of respondents were "in principle" "for". The rest are hesitant. The survey was conducted between January 29 and 31 among 800 adult Bulgarians.

According to the director of "Measure" Parvan Simeonov skepticism may be due to our aging population and the great social inequality and ghettoization.

„In addition, I have noticed that young people are more inclined to say „yes“ to entering the eurozone. But I also have a cultural and historical detail, we identify with the leva, it is part of the symbols. We need a very good information campaign“, he said.

The results are no different on the more specific question of when Bulgaria should enter the eurozone - asked with the clarification that adopting the euro is part of our country's agreements to finalize European integration, explains "Measure".

Over 40% say the euro should never be adopted.

“There is stability in attitudes towards the eurozone, people's fears and inflation are often related to price increases. So the information campaign should be oriented specifically towards the elderly and the socially disadvantaged“, believes Parvanov.
