The ruling coalition will have set their people up for the regulators, but there are institutions like the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), where 160 votes are needed and there my hope is that they can't gather 160 votes, even if Peevski votes with them. And that means they will have to seek the votes of the opposition. If someone doesn't sell out, there is a chance to make the competitions for regulators fair.
This was stated by the co-chair of the PP and former prime minister Kiril Petkov to bTV.
What the PP-DB is fighting for is that if there is no functioning Commission for the Protection of Competition, there is no way to protect citizens from high prices. There must be fair competitions for regulators, Petkov insisted and asked if it is so difficult to hold fair competitions for regulators who work for citizens in the best way. PP-DB is ready to talk to the authorities so that regulators can be transparent and candidates can compete based on their professional qualities, and not who is the parent of whom.
Kiril Petkov is happy that the government has admitted that they need to be more careful and not be impudent. Political competition gives Bulgaria a step forward, he believes.
As for the 18 billion leva budget hole, Petkov said that this PR propaganda broke in January when it became clear that the budget was in surplus by half a billion leva. The current government will not be able to introduce a budget with a deficit of over 3%, the former prime minister believes and added that the important thing is to specify which expenses are prepaid, which are invoiced and which are paid. The situation cannot be that dire, given that the first month of the year begins with a surplus of half a billion leva, Petkov emphasized.
He also stated that the Eurozone is a national priority for the PP-DB. Between the first and second reading of the budget, the PP-DB will fight to increase pensions for the elderly. The most important priority remains to comply with the Eurozone criteria. Kiril Petkov insisted on analyzing which people are on the front line and where the risks in the professions are high. You can't throw money from a helicopter for everyone, but you need to see who receives pensions and salaries and see if it can't be cut from the state administration, Petkov said.
According to him, currently increasing salaries that are not on the front line and are sitting at a desk is stopping people's career development. Kiril Petkov determined that there are three types of people who are pushing very hard on all possible levers they have to stop Bulgaria from joining the Eurozone.
