Christian Vigenin: Let's combine words and deeds, otherwise we lose trust - 1

„I have a very clear and specific program for changes in the BSP, my proposals were widely commented on during my numerous conversations with socialists from all over the country. It is important that people in the BSP have a choice, they must have the chance to choose a direction and perspective forward. I am participating in order to win.“ This was stated by the deputy chairman of the BSP and candidate for chairman of the party, Christian Vigenin, to BTV on the occasion of the upcoming election of the chairman of the party.

„The party can no longer afford conflicts and division. We must combine words and deeds - when there is a discrepancy between them, we lose the trust of the voters“, he warned. Vigenin once again emphasized that he is a defender of direct elections, because this is a right that was given to the socialists and should not be is being taken away. “It is clear that there are some problems with this type of election. I think that the pragmatic approach that is emerging at the Congress is to eliminate direct elections, but in the future, when the obstacles are cleared, we can think about bringing it back again“, he added. According to Vigenin, it is still not possible to say who is the favorite for BSP chairman. “I believe that the delegates will vote according to their conscience and surprises are possible“, he said.

Kristian Vigenin explained that he was highly skeptical about the BSP entering the ruling majority, but did not express himself against it. “I wanted to draw attention to the risks, because there are still some colleagues who see only the positive side. In the end, I supported the BSP entering the government, because the other option was elections again. Between these two choices, it was better for us to try to implement our ideas through governance,“ he noted.

The Deputy Chairman of the BSP also commented on the tension surrounding the presence of the Minister of Social Affairs at the conference organized by the Russian Embassy and the "Bulgaria - Russia" forum, which he himself attended: “This embarrassment is a bit inexplicable. It is not the first time such a conference has been held. And there were many famous scientists there. I do not see anything unusual about going to such a conference. I think it is important to know who thinks what about the processes in the world. I do not understand this drama, it continues quite organized for the second or third day. Ms. Mitrofanova is not persona non grata, diplomatic relations with Russia have not been interrupted. And on the same day, the presidents of the United States and Russia, Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, spoke. Dialogue is returning to the world, I don't see why this shouldn't happen here, in Bulgaria“, argues Christian Vigenin. “What is happening can make Europe stronger if it acts adequately and returns to the principles on which it was created – peace, well-being of citizens, economic prosperity. Otherwise, things will fall apart. Bulgaria has an interest in being part of a strong European Union“, he commented.

Christian Vigenin bitterly noted the inexplicable scenes of aggression and scandals in the National Assembly: “I don't know if the most important thing in the country are these committees that are proposed only to not pass and become a reason for quarrels. This must be put to an end, because it can spill over into the streets. In every parliament, passions flare up and there are outbursts, but when this becomes the norm, it is worrying.“
