From April 1, NHIF will monitor the issuance and fulfillment of electronic prescriptions in real time.

Outpatient medical care providers and pharmacies will receive real-time information about the authenticity of prescriptions. For this purpose, each pharmacy must implement new software.

For two consecutive days, the system in Milena Kamenova's pharmacy in Rakovski has not allowed the system to prescribe medications to patients with electronic prescriptions under the Health Insurance Fund at certain times.

She says that the situation repeats itself every month when there is a cluster of people taking their medications for the month.

„The submitter is not a partner of NHIF. In fact, I am a partner, this is probably one of the next mistakes. Now I have to go out, try to restart the entire system, and during that time the patient has to wait for me“, explained Milena Kamenova, who owns a pharmacy, to BTV.

The errors that the system gives create inconvenience for patients who go from pharmacy to pharmacy.

Because of this, Tinka Milusheva has given up the free heart medications that are prescribed by the NHIF and buys them with her own money.

From April 1, pharmacies must introduce new software at their own expense. Through it, the Health Insurance Fund will control the execution of electronic prescriptions in real time.

The new system also covers general practitioners. According to the chairman of the Pharmaceutical Union, this will prevent prescription errors from the very beginning.

The Health Insurance Fund is currently testing the new system, and Milena Kamenova says she is not optimistic that the new software will reduce errors in the system.
