"Please do not consider my candidacy for BSP chairman", said former Prime Minister and former BSP chairman Sergey Stanishev during the meeting of the 51st Congress of the party.
"For me, my candidacy is a tool, first of all, to wake the delegates from their slumber, to think with our heads and to seek solutions that are useful for the BSP and the country", he said and added that he had had enough appearances in the media.
"I think that in the current situation, when at the last moment we cancel the direct election, although I am not a big fan of it, we are making the future chairman dependent on many balances in the National Council", Stanishev pointed out, quoted by BTA.
And thirdly - I would not like to compete in the "night of the long pens", because other mechanisms will work," he added.
Stanishev thanked for the nomination and trust and expressed the hope that the BSP will follow the path of reason.
According to him, the big question that the Congress must answer is why the BSP is in the ruling coalition and what it must achieve.
In his words, the argument that there must be a government in order to avoid new elections is not enough. Therefore, Stanishev pointed out that he has proposed a resolution to the Congress, which entirely concerns the issues of governance.
The document is entitled "With responsibility to Bulgaria, with a thought for the future" and aims to hold a meaningful conversation about the priorities of the left in governance.
