In an emotional speech to the delegates of the 51st BSP Congress, Kiril Dobrev sent a message, emphasizing the need for unification and renewal in the party. In his speech, he openly shared that three years ago he did not imagine that he would be part of the BSP again, but admitted that he had never left it in his soul.
„The five-year dark and confused period in ideological and organizational terms for the BSP is over. History will give its assessment, but the damage in electoral terms is enormous – from the first political force, the party became the fifth, with an insignificant number of deputies“, said Dobrev. He emphasized that despite this decline, the BSP remains a party of intelligent people, deeply connected to the building of the state and its successes over the years.
According to Dobrev, the BSP has always been a symbol of reason, consent and justice. He expressed confidence that the page of conservative socialism is closed and the party must once again be progressive, a defender of the weak and the disadvantaged. “With our participation in the government, we have a chance to restore hope and confidence that we can be useful to society and the state“, he said, citing specific examples of the BSP's work in power - from social policies implemented through the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy to the fight against the water crisis and support for young people through the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Dobrev called for a united BSP, ready to work with other left-wing formations despite past differences, as well as for the imposition of the new generation in the party, which would be an alternative for the future. “Let's impose new faces that we know, but the public doesn't yet. Let's give them a chance, as we gave to young and energetic MPs like Nasko, Gabriel, Galin, Nina, Bilyana, Krasi, Vladi. Soon everyone will know them – they are part of the new generation of the BSP“, he said.
In conclusion, Dobrev stressed that the party needs a leader who can unite, not divide, and who will hand over power to the next generation without drama. “Does it seem impossible to you? Hardly. It's very easy. We just have to choose the person who loves the party more than himself“, he concluded.
