40,000 illegal nicotine vapes have been seized by customs officers in just a month and a half since the beginning of the year.
25,000 illegal vapes have been seized during inspections at Customs - Sofia, the quantity being comparable to that seized throughout the entire past year.
These are non-narcotic vapes, but the problem is that they do not meet the requirements of the law - they are disposable, but contain 15-25 milliliters of liquid, and the nicotine content is often above 2%, as the requirements are to be below this threshold. There are also those with 5% or more nicotine content.
Vapes that supposedly do not contain nicotine have also been seized, but it turns out that they contain large doses. They come most often from China, but also from a number of other countries.
They are ordered in commercial quantities - between 100 and thousands, one of the large shipments was with 5,500 vapes. The recipients are individuals who then distribute them illegally.
The recipients are up to 25 years old, and there are also several cases of minors who have tried to "start a business" by ordering 100-200 vapes with money from their parents.
