The basic monthly salary of MPs reached 7,872 leva, according to the latest data from the National Statistical Institute (NSI). The increase is a significant 800 leva compared to the previous quarter, when MPs received a basic salary of 7,080 leva.
According to the current financial rules of the National Assembly, the remuneration of MPs is equal to three average monthly salaries in the public sector for the last month of each quarter. In December 2024, the average salary in the public sector reached 2,624 leva.
The Speaker of the National Assembly and the Prime Minister will each receive a basic monthly salary of 12,201 leva, which represents an increase of 55% compared to the basic MP salary. Ministers and chairmen of parliamentary committees will receive 10,627 leva each, or 35% more than ordinary MPs.
The average salary for the last quarter of last year in the country reached 2,413 leva, which is an increase of 6.1% compared to the previous quarter. The largest growth was registered in the "Education" sector - as much as 19.1%, followed by the energy sector with 8.4% and the financial sector with 8%.
Information technologies continue to lead the salary ranking with an average salary of 5,305 leva. At the other extreme remains the hotel industry with 1,510 leva. An interesting fact is that salaries in the education sector - an average of 3,016 leva, are already ahead of those in the central administration, where the average salary is 2,562 leva.
