Three years ago on this date, the Russian invasion of Ukraine began. Ukrainian Ambassador Olesya Ilashchuk spoke to bTV.
“It was at this moment years ago that my son and I, along with two other mothers and their children, decided what to do, because Kiev had been bombed for several hours. These are memories that will be with us forever, which will not be erased by any positive news, and today, while citizens in Bulgaria and Europe are calmly welcoming Monday, we are welcoming our day“, she said on the show “This Morning“.
Every day of hers begins with a call to her son, who is no longer in Kiev, but is studying in Europe. She defines this for the fate of many Ukrainian mothers.
And she specifies that the Russian war in Ukraine began 11 years ago, and the last three every day and night the Ukrainian people have spent in a fight for their lives and for their country.
„Today is a great day and an opportunity to pay our respects to the dead, and to all who have participated in this war since 2014. Over the past 11 years, the aggressor country has shown its mastery in hypocrisy, in meanness, in the infinity of crimes“, said the Ukrainian ambassador.
„The terror on the part of the Kremlin has unprecedented dimensions - this is outright nuclear blackmail. This is an attempt to destroy the Chernobyl sarcophagus, and all this is a danger to Europe and the modern community,“ she warned.
But she expressed hope, explaining that in recent years Ukraine has liberated a large part of its territories.
„The Russian fleet no longer dominates the Black Sea. Russia is suffering huge numerical losses in this war, and the Ukrainian army is showing great experience using the most modern technologies“.
Yesterday, the head of state of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced some of the heaviest strikes since the beginning of the war - hundreds of drones that continue to attack Ukrainian cities.
„If you remember, they said they would take Kiev in three days, and three years have already passed. Yesterday 267 drones attacked Ukraine - this is the largest number since the beginning of the full-scale war. "However, Ukraine continues to stand and fight," Ilashchuk was categorical.
