Prof. Rumen Kanchev: There will be no peace treaty in Ukraine by the end of the year

And for Trump, "Peace through force" is to go and betray your allies

The signing of a peace treaty in Ukraine will be a long process and by the end of this year I am sure that there will be no such treaty, and for the coming years we will see, predicted Prof. Rumen Kanchev, former Deputy Minister of Defense, in an interview with the Bulgarian National Radio.

According to him, it is mandatory to have a strategic agreement with Russia and this was necessary to do even before the war in Ukraine. And he recalled that in December 2021, Russia sent documents to the US State Department for the withdrawal of NATO's military infrastructure. The American side proposed to hold a Round Table with 7 panels and discuss all issues, and for Russia to receive answers to its questions. But in the end, Russia did not agree to the Round Table.

"So there should be a strategic agreement, but this operation should not have been carried out in Ukraine. Secondly, a strategic agreement with China is also a strong move. China is ready to work with Europe, has a lot of capital and was the largest investor in the economy of Ukraine before the war", commented Prof. Kanchev.

"Let it not happen that the US gets three major world powers as opponents - China, Europe and Russia, united against them", he added.

The former deputy defense minister admitted that he is hopeful for Europe after the election results in Germany, "because a pro-European government is expected to be created and I am hopeful":

"Germany is the strong country in Europe. Scholz could not prove himself as a supporter of European interests, and therefore it is important for Germany to take its leading position in the EU, as France did. The EU has difficult years ahead, because Putin's demand is to tear Europe apart, break up the EU and cause a collapse in NATO", says Prof. Kanchev.

He pointed out that the doctrine "Peace through strength" is a slogan from Ronald Reagan's election campaign and bases its concept on science and scientific and technological progress.

"And for Trump, "Peace through strength" is to go and betray your allies, that is how his meeting with Riyadh is perceived," said Prof. Kanchev.

And he pointed out that Europe is pressed against the wall and must prove itself as an international entity.

"Europe has been shaken by the deep sleep under the wing of the Americans and now must emerge as a global player. Europe has the qualities to be such a player, simply by structuring its defense by creating its own, independent of the American one," suggests the former deputy defense minister.
