The government wants to preserve jobs at the Maritsa-Iztok 3 TPP, said Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov during a parliamentary hearing on the information from the company's executive director Vasil Shtonov about suspending the operation of the Contour Global Maritsa-Iztok 3 TPP by March 31, 2025 and laying off employees. The hearing was held at the proposal of MECH MP Krasimir Manov.
Stankov indicated that he had meetings with the management of the Contour Global Maritsa-Iztok 3 TPP regarding plans for the future of the plant, in which the National Electricity Company (NEK) owns 27 percent. According to him, the decisions that were taken back in time by the majority owner show that he has no desire to manage the plant.
"During our conversations, I made it clear to them that the state aims for the plant to be operated either by them or by another interested party in order to preserve the jobs in it, as well as those of the 6,400-6,500 miners who are employed in the complex," the minister said.
