The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria Georg Georgiev held a telephone conversation today with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia H.H. Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud. This was the first official contact between the two ministers after Minister Georgiev took office, the press center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
During the conversation, the two confirmed the aspiration of Bulgaria and Saudi Arabia to deepen the bilateral political dialogue at a high and highest level, with a view to the upward development of relations between the two countries and the discovery of the significant potential for mutually beneficial cooperation.
Minister Georgiev emphasized that Bulgaria considers the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as one of its most promising partners in the Middle East region. The two ministers discussed sectoral cooperation in a number of key areas. In this regard, the importance of the upcoming first meeting of the Joint Committee for Economic Cooperation (JCC) between Bulgaria and Saudi Arabia was emphasized, which will provide a platform for specifying priorities for future cooperation. Minister Georgiev also confirmed Bulgaria's readiness to host a second round of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries in Sofia.
During the conversation, the role of Saudi Arabia as a key factor for stability in the Persian Gulf region and the Middle East was also discussed. Minister Georgiev emphasized Bulgaria's high assessment of the Kingdom's efforts in this direction and our country's commitment to supporting international initiatives for sustainable peace and security in the region.
In conclusion, the two ministers agreed to maintain active political dialogue and interaction with the aim of deepening bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest. Invitations for visits were also exchanged for both ministers, to Sofia and Riyadh, respectively.
