Prime Minister Zhelyazkov was not convincing in his thesis, despite that post in support of Zelensky. Our concern is because he is clearly under strong pressure from his BSP partners, but this is very bad news for Bulgaria. It may turn out to be quite real that today we are at a crucial moment and we have to vote on things that are most important in the lives of our children. This lopsided position of Rosen Zhelyazkov together with the unclear position of Borisov, with the worrying positions of the president and the chairman of the National Assembly, things are worrying. This was stated by Yordan Ivanov from “Continuing the change-Democratic Bulgaria” in “Face to face” on bTV, commenting on the Security Council held at the Council of Ministers, quoted by novini.bg
We welcome the decision of Rosen Zhelyazkov to convene such a type of council so that he can go with a consolidated position to the upcoming meeting. In these dynamic times, one must act measuredly without unnecessary emotion, said Atanas Atanasov from the BSP.
„The opinion of the BSP from the very beginning of this conflict is to seek peace through diplomacy as quickly as possible. The whole world is already coming to our point. Here, the right decisions must be made very carefully, without unnecessary emotion. Hundreds of thousands of people lost their lives in this conflict”, he specified.
„How do you imagine this peace? As we know, the only way to be at peace with Russia is to be well armed. Ukraine to give up territories, sign a peace treaty and in three days a bomb will fall in Kiev?”, Ivanov turned to his colleague. „How do you imagine this peace, colleagues? Let them say, because this could be a fateful moment for Bulgaria! We know that our colleagues from the BSP and Vazrazhdane are promoting Russian interests,” the deputy from the DB called.
„We have a very clear vision for peace in Ukraine. There must be a new architectural security in Europe, negotiations to end hostilities, with military guarantees that three days after the conclusion of peace, no bomb will fall in Kiev or that it will not continue towards the Baltic states”, Ivanov stated.
„After Donald Trump's words and after what is happening all over the world, a fairy tale that has been told to us for over three years has ended. It is time to take a realistic look at how things stand. Bulgaria is an integral part of Europe and we must take a more leading role and participate in shaping EU policy. They are not inviting us because we are coming out of a 4-year political crisis. Can you imagine if in these dynamic times, Bulgaria did not have a stable government? If the colleagues from the PP-DB were in power, they would be the first in the coalition of those who want us to give money for arming and continuing this fratricidal conflict”, Atanasov announced. “The first thing that needs to be done is to sit down at the negotiating table. We have seen that President Zelensky is ready for such negotiations. Whether there will be a resolution of territorial issues, whether there will be none, this will be resolved at this table. Three years ago, when we said that a diplomatic way out of this war should be sought, we should have taken the leading role back then”, the BSP MP believes.
„How does this majority plan to vote for an increased defense budget, how does it plan to participate in the new process that is taking shape in Europe, will we remain on the periphery or will we be in the center, how does Bulgaria plan to participate in these meetings, how will we implement these policies that are an exceptional economic opportunity for us, how will this happen with this pro-Russian position”?, Ivanov asked.
„We have always supported the modernization of the Bulgarian Army. The only thing I can agree with my colleague on is that we need to see how Bulgaria can benefit from this disgusting conflict. If we have to choose between weapons over social benefits and care for people, the BSP will always be in a position to prefer the latter”, the BSP MP pointed out.
Yordan Ivanov emphasized that investments in defense lead to wealth in the economy and gave an example of countries in Europe.
