Mihail Mikov: European leaders have long lost their sense of realism. Trump showed them reality - 1

Bulgaria is placed in a complex geopolitical situation related to the conflict in Ukraine and its consequences.

"It is quite fluid and I am afraid that the sense of realism has not yet penetrated our politicians. They are still suffering from what was yesterday. I remember when I was little in Kula, Vidin region, where I am from - during the Caribbean crisis they had put up a banner that they told me was there. I was little, but I remember that it said "Hold on, Cuba, Kula is with you". "So our position in the last few years sounds more or less the same way," said former BSP chairman Mihail Mikov on "Denyat ON AIR." He believes that in the current context, Bulgaria must realize that it cannot significantly influence the outcome of the conflict in Ukraine and that peace must be a top priority. The possibility of Bulgaria providing additional funds for security and support to the countries affected by the conflict was also discussed in the conversation. Mikov stressed that despite the country's efforts to benefit from European funds, Bulgaria is increasingly losing funds that could be used for its own needs. In his opinion, significant amounts of these funds will be redirected to Ukraine, not Bulgaria.

"European leaders have long lost their sense of realism, and you too, and everyone remembers these 3 years how many absurd things they said until they hit reality head-on. The reality was shown to them by today's American president. I think he wants the war to end quickly so that the world can return to a more peaceful existence," Mikov commented to Bulgaria ON AIR.

He also expressed the opinion that Ukraine will not be accepted into NATO in the near future, and this could be part of the decision that will lead to an end to hostilities.
