The leading topic of the past week was the reshuffle of the parliament, the declaration of the election of 16 deputies as illegal and the entry of “Majesty“ into the National Assembly.
Political scientists Prof. Svetoslav Malinov and Assoc. Prof. Tatyana Burudzhieva talk about the decision of the Constitutional Court and the Central Election Commission, which led to this, in the program “This Saturday and Sunday“.
“After we allowed ourselves to conduct three elections in one year, now we will conduct three recounts – the situation is simply tragic, from the point of view of the functioning of institutions. They have failed to create in people a sense of justice that their vote will actually be counted“, said Tatyana Burudzhieva.
“We need to turn to the best practices for overcoming distrust in the electoral process and see which one is suitable for Bulgaria. I am “for“ machine voting, but most of all I am for common counting centers. My experience has taught me that the riskiest part is in the SICs – that is where information is guaranteed that this corporate vote can be controlled“, said Prof. Malinov.
“There are many problems in the SICs. Bulgaria already has a quasi-professional election administration, at least in our neighborhood – there are two or three more places“, he specified.
Assoc. Prof. Burudzhieva supported his thesis, adding:
„We need to open the conversation on how we actually close the doors to this manipulation of the election result as much as possible, and with the clear awareness that they will also adapt to this new system, because this is the practice in the world, but at least there are guarantees for the people that their votes will be counted“.
Prof. Malinov also spoke about the changes in the political situation in our country:
„Everything must be placed in the light of the almost certain positive convergence report, which will give us the green light to enter the eurozone. I would base this on the analysis of our new political situation“.
„I suggest that we play it safe – that the parties for whom the eurozone is a priority turn to each other and give their word to ensure this stability in the coming months. "Then governments will be overthrown again," he said.
