Following a report by NOVA about a mentally ill man who threatens women and children on the streets, the Sofia District Prosecutor's Office took action. The state prosecution ordered his immediate search and forced treatment. The man has paranoid schizophrenia and is already admitted to the "Saint Ivan Rilski" psychiatric hospital. However, people are worried that after he is released, they will again become the subject of harassment and attacks.
We recall that on Tuesday, a woman said that she and her child were attacked by the man in the "Oborishte" area. NOVA received signals from more people who say that they live in fear and cannot walk peacefully in the center of Sofia. On the air of "Zdravej, Bulgaria" women, who requested anonymity, said that the man also entered the courtyard of the National Music School “Lyubomir Pipkov”, which is located near the Doctor's Garden. Videos filmed by students show him brandishing a knife.
“The videos show that the security guards are not allowing him into the building, and he is screaming and making a fuss. He wants to enter under the pretext that he studied there and needs his diploma”, a woman, who requested anonymity, told our camera.
It turns out that the man is indeed a former graduate of the educational institution. “The children who filmed the videos mention that he was carrying not only a knife, but also an axe”, the woman said. According to her, this man needs help and treatment. “He has been taken away several times and then released. It is becoming a nightmare for many people. He attacks women with small children, regardless of whether there is anyone with them”, she emphasized.
Another lady said that the number of women attacked recently has been 4-5 per day. “We are afraid to go outside when he is released after a stay in a medical facility”, she said. She added that the man tried to enter the home of a woman from the area and was filmed by security cameras. “She is very scared. The rest of us who live nearby try not to come into his sight. We avoid places where we might encounter him because he is vengeful. A girl filed a report against him, they took him away, and after he was released, I stood for months in front of the building where the lady in question lives,” said another person familiar with the case, who requested anonymity.
She emphasized that after doing some research, it turned out that the man has a family. “He has a father, whom he calls when he is detained. But his relatives refuse to take care of him,” she emphasized.
