Attorney Stavri Iliev will no longer represent 26-year-old Gabriela Sashova, accused of serious crimes including money laundering, participation in a criminal association and cruelty to animals.
In a statement to the newspaper "24 Chasa", lawyer Iliev explained the reasons for his decision: "We mutually agreed that I am not the right lawyer for her. Her father hired me on the charge of money laundering. I mainly deal with finances, I cannot be of any use to her".
According to information from the investigation, 26-year-old Gabriela Sashova and 35-year-old Krasimir Georgiev have been detained and charged with committing serious crimes - cruelty to animals, causing them to suffer a painful death. Law enforcement authorities have determined that the two distributed videos of the abuse on the dark web, mainly to foreign clients.
The prosecution claims that Sashova and Georgiev tortured animals on camera for about two to three years. They documented the cruelty and sold the footage on the Internet, which also brought them charges of money laundering. The investigation was initiated after a report from an NGO to the competent authorities.
