The week extinguished some scandals and ignited new ones. The question that continues to be raised, however, is the stability of the government, especially after another ultimatum from Dogan's people, which expires on Tuesday. Will the ruling majority have the comfort to continue its work, or will it seek new configurations? And what will be the political effects of the investigation that the European Public Prosecutor's Office has started? Is there a move towards "DPS-New Beginning" being recognized as an official partner?
“I don't know if Peevski himself has a desire for this, or at this stage he would prefer to remain a visible but informal partner”, political scientist Ognyan Minchev commented on the program “Crossroads”. “As for the other coalition partners, I think that everything is now possible in this crisis configuration of the political majorities in the National Assembly. Only two months ago, no one would have guessed that it was possible for “DPS-New Beginning” and DPS-DPS to be part of one majority, albeit very uncomfortably coexisting”, said Minchev.
According to him, DPS-DPS is the lightest faction in the majority. ”We can expect their withdrawal from the majority. But with the same probability, we can expect only one categorical declaration. The majority is not directly threatened, because “DPS-New Beginning” will maintain the majority. This majority can be maintained at least until the summer-autumn, if it does not set itself overly ambitious tasks that would aggravate relations between its main partners”, commented the political scientist.
According to him, GERB is in a privileged position.
„It is obvious that without them there is no regular government in this parliament and in any that may be convened in the foreseeable future. If there is no regular one, there will be an official one. Another issue is that GERB must carefully balance between different positions and interests. We find ourselves in a specific international situation, in which individual Bulgarian political players are obviously making different calculations related to the rapid change in the international situation,” said Minchev.
