Petar Vitanov: Teodora Georgieva must be provided with protection in order to expose the vices of the Bulgarian system

Petar Vitanov: Teodora Georgieva must be provided with protection in order to expose the vices of the Bulgarian system - 1

European Prosecutor General Laura Kövesi temporarily removed the Bulgarian prosecutor from the European Prosecutor's Office, Teodora Georgieva.

"Obviously, this case with Bulgaria worries the European institutions, the European Prosecutor's Office, and it is taking measures so that the damage does not fall on the EP. When we talk about the Bulgarian European Prosecutor, we must separate 2 aspects - what we witnessed - the recordings, which are probably authentic. I assume that there is a degree of credibility in them. This shows the viciousness of the way of staffing the entire judicial system. This is a serious case that also predetermines the EP investigation", said former MEP Petar Vitanov in the studio of "Denyat ON AIR".
In his words, to claim that only in Bulgaria there is corruption and a similar type of staffing would be naive.
"The second aspect is that even if we have such visible violations in the selection and election, this woman must be provided with protection so that she can expose the vices of the Bulgarian system. The fact that she entered the European Prosecutor's Office in an unforgiving manner does not cancel her right to be protected. I am sure that the European institutions will do everything possible to protect her", Vitanov added on the air of Bulgaria ON AIR.

According to him, the scale of such crimes in Bulgaria is unprecedented.

"What I have seen from my experience, I would say that the situation is desperate. Ask the Bulgarian socialists what they think of Teodora Georgieva. They believe that she has always been subjective in her investigations on national soil", the guest emphasized.
Two or three candidates reach the EP
Asked if Laura Kövesi did not conduct a check, Vitanov replied: "She did not have the opportunity to select between 50-100 or 200 candidates. The main part of the selection is done by the Supreme Judicial Council. Two or three candidates reach the European Prosecutor's Office. I do not rule out that the other candidate entered in exactly the same way. What Bulgarian political parties do is to extract some kind of political dividend," added the former MEP.

Vitanov believes that the PVU was a time bomb.

"What did the PP-DB do? They tried to bring in their close companies, and on the other hand they tried to introduce a judicial reform that was not required by the EC. In Bulgaria, the ruling party is ready to lose European money, because the control over it is much greater than over national money, and there it is stolen without accountability. We cannot save more than 30-40% of this money," he concluded.
