Assoc. Prof. Petar Cholakov: People around Ahmed Dogan feel worried, and their behavior is not an act or a theater

"Boyko Borisov is trying to balance between the two - Dogan and Peevski. But it may turn out that if Dogan is tired of being made a fool of and decides to withdraw his support, then in order to preserve the government, the only move is for Peevski to come in, to arrive with a bang. Otherwise, if this does not happen, we are heading for elections," predicts the political scientist

Assoc. Prof. Petar Cholakov: People around Ahmed Dogan feel worried, and their behavior is not an act or a theater - 1

The pro-European opposition, represented by the PP-DB, does not want to shake the cradle of the government for foreign policy reasons. For the moment, it seems that the eurozone as a foreign policy priority unites both the ruling party and part of the opposition. This was commented on in an interview for the program "Newsroom" on Radio "Focus" by political scientist Assoc. Prof. Petar Cholakov.

"PP-DB said that they will not support the vote of no confidence submitted by "Vazrazhdane", because they are waiting for the application for membership in the eurozone to be fulfilled. From this point of view, after at least one of the leading opposition formations fails in such a key vote of no confidence, it is obvious that "Vazrazhdane", "Velicie" and MECH will not gather enough support in parliament. Whether we want it or not, it seems that the government will hold out. The question is whether the horizon will be until the beginning of next year, which seems logical if we then enter the eurozone, and then think about early elections. For the moment, it seems that the eurozone as a foreign policy priority unites both the ruling party and part of the opposition, he said.

As for the decision of "Democracy, Rights and Freedoms-DPS", which should become clear on Tuesday, whether to withdraw its support from the "Zhelyazkov" cabinet, Assoc. Prof. Cholakov believes that the people around Ahmed Dogan feel worried, and their behavior is not overacting or theater.

"Of course, Dogan is at a crossroads – it is advantageous for him to be in power for many reasons, not just because it is sweet in itself, but because he most likely hopes to hinder Delyan Peevski and limit his influence. It is obvious, however, that this is not happening in practice. This is how Boyko Borisov is actually trying to balance between the two – Dogan and Peevski. But it may turn out that if Dogan is tired of being made a fool of and decides to withdraw his support, then in order to preserve the government, the only move is for Peevski to come in, to arrive with a bang. Otherwise, if this does not happen, we are heading towards elections“, the political scientist predicts.

Assoc. Prof. Cholakov commented on the scandal with the Bulgarian European Prosecutor: “The signal is very worrying, her reaction is also worrying, she has been silent for a very long time“.
