The Minister of the Interior Daniel Mitov ordered a comprehensive inspection of the condition of dangerous sections of the road network throughout the country, the press center of the Ministry of the Interior reported.

The competent police structures in the General Directorate “National Police“ and the regional directorates of the Ministry of Interior will check whether the dangerous sections, identified through the interactive map of the Directorate “Communication and Information Systems“, are safe for traffic and secured according to the issued police regulations, as well as whether regulations have been issued for them.
Next week, Minister Mitov will present to Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov a report with proposals for comprehensive measures, the aim of which is to seriously improve road safety, as is also written in the government's priority program.
“It is high time to end the war on the road, which is killing our children and loved ones and is becoming a risk to Bulgaria's national security. Within the framework of my legal powers as Minister of the Interior, I will spare no effort and time to prevent the future of our nation from being lost on Bulgarian roads again“, said Minister Mitov.
“I will categorically not accept the “on-duty” excuses that new changes are needed in the laws related to road safety. Yes, proposals have been made and will be made, but until then, the Ministry of the Interior will not stand idly by and, like a registrar at a counter, record the next victims and injured people on the road. We can and are obliged to take specific measures that the law allows us to take in the shortest possible time“, added the Minister.
By order of Acting Secretary General of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Chief Commissioner Miroslav Rashkov, today and tomorrow unmarked cars with civilian officers from the Criminal Police will go out on the roads in the country to monitor for violations of the rules of safe traffic. They are tasked with filming and reporting aggressive drivers of cars and trucks who pose a risk to other road users. In coordination with uniformed officers, these drivers with the relevant vehicles will be removed from road traffic for the imposition of sanctions.
