Yesterday, the first in a series of investigative experiments was held on the section between Radomirtsi and Telish. In the program “Offensive with Lyubo Ognyanov” on NOVA NEWS Prof. Stanimir Karapetkov, who participated in the expert examination of the incident, specified what the real condition of the road was where 12-year-old Siyana died. In his words, the so-called “patches on the road” can be very dangerous.

“When there is a different pavement, it has different characteristics. You know from physics that each material expands thermally in a different way. When we cover a hole, this pavement wears out quickly. As soon as there is The inhomogeneity of the pavement and the grip are different, this poses a big problem, especially in wet conditions. Indeed, there are such ruts on the Pleven section. They are due to the heavy load. Once we remove the nuts and see the structure, we will say whether it is due to negligence in laying the pavement or something else,” explained the professor.

What is done during an inspection when assessing the condition of a road section where accidents often occur?

„The inspection is the most important investigative action after a road accident. The initial data is entered into a protocol. All the basic assumptions that could have a causal relationship with the accident itself and its clarification are given. This is a very complex process. I characterize the condition of the road as relatively bad”, the expert also said.

If there is a hypothesis of low adhesion, one of the crucial things is to take cores in special places, where the structure of the material is analyzed. The main thing is to look at the percentage of rock mass. This is the main fraction for us to have good adhesion”, Karapetkov explained. However, he specified that such a sample cannot be taken from every accident.
According to him, roads have different load capacities, and highways have special quality requirements.

The geometry of the road is a very important characteristic, he added. According to him, a ban or at least a restriction on trucks in the area is necessary.
For Karapetkov, installing a sound barrier with reflective paint is also a good idea, and the speed should not exceed 60 km/h.
