In Greece, certain goods will be sold at lower prices for Easter. There is no such measure in our country.
The Chairman of the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Markets Vladimir Ivanov stated in "Bulgaria Morning" that we do not need such a measure, since we have a normally functioning market.
"In terms of price levels, we have better conditions than Greece. The consumer can make a fairly profitable consumer basket. We are always dissatisfied with anything. We still dream of a time when someone should be responsible for us. "We do not have large enough structures in terms of fruit and vegetable production," commented the guest of Bulgaria ON AIR.
Ivanov pointed out that
we have high-level producers, we just need to use the potential of the state, with which "we can feed 30 million people".
According to him, more work and a change in the way of thinking are needed. If we, the consumers, step into the market more intelligently and more informed, we cannot help but change its appearance, Vladimir Ivanov is convinced.
"We expect the market to be saturated with leafy vegetables, which are typical for Easter. For the holiday, we will have a saturated market with a supply of almost everything. The mass supply of Bulgarian greenhouse tomatoes and cucumbers is just beginning. Their prices are almost at last year's levels. The average wholesale price of lettuce is 5 stotinki higher. Fresh potatoes started with a very strong price compared to last year, by nearly 100 percent. Within a week, the percentages are already 60", explained the chairman of the DKSBT.
Ivanov is of the opinion that we will see a drop in prices a little slower. In recent years, we have not been overstocking with food before the holidays. The difference in the consumer basket is about 7 leva up compared to 2024, if we buy the 27 basic products. Two leva of these seven come from fresh potatoes, it became clear from his words. Pork and chicken meat are in good supply, eggs are at prices at the level of last year.
Lamb is at prices almost the same as last year. There is enough Bulgarian lamb, there will be imports, there is no way,
Ivanov noted. He pointed out that Bulgarian eggs are of excellent quality. According to him, everyone can afford to pay 1.20 leva more and use a high-quality product like Bulgarian eggs.
Kozunak is a little more expensive - five to ten percent.
"The problem is not in the market. The problem is in the structure and method of implementing commercial and production practices," Ivanov is categorical.
He added that irrigation is a huge problem, but the climate is the biggest factor.
"Fruit growers currently have serious problems. No matter what we do, we cannot fight the climate. A fairly big problem in the industry is the labor factor," Ivanov also said.
The trend has been broken with cocoa and coffee, we are going down. The problem is fixed. There are problems with palm and soybean oil, concluded the chairman of the DKSBT.
