In the Kyustendil region, the damage to fruit trees caused by the cold last night is serious. According to experts, the sub-zero temperatures have destroyed the trees that have blossomed in places. The most critical hours for fruit trees are the early morning hours,, summarized the Bulgarian National Radio.
The damage is widespread, said Prof. Dimitar Domozetov - long-time director of the Institute of Agriculture near Kyustendil, now a farmer.
"The apple is still closed, something may have been saved. The cherries - first, second and third terraces more or less - will hardly be there this year, and somewhere higher up, higher up, they may remain, because these, the lateral frosts come down from both Osogovo and the Konyovska Mountains. Unfortunately, there is snow on the Konyovska Mountain, they are also descending from... Struma, down below they are changing the very situation. It is getting much colder. Most of the agricultural producers in the region have not insured their crops, but even if they had, the insurers paid damages registered after April 20, the professor added.
