The leader of "There is such a people" Slavi Trifonov proposes new measures in the fight against road traffic injuries. He insists that public transport vehicles be equipped with breathalyzers for drivers, who, after being tested and the sample comes out negative, can drive the vehicle. If this does not happen, however, the car should be blocked and therefore not be able to drive.
The device must be connected to the vehicle's computer, Slavi Trifonov specified.
He points out that such a method has been introduced in one of the Scandinavian countries. According to him, the Minister of Transport and Communications Grozdan Karadjov also shares his vision.
Here is what Slavi Trifonov wrote:
I express my full support to the family of little Siyana and to the families of all Bulgarians who have lost loved ones, in such a ridiculous way, on the eternal roads of Bulgaria. I am a practical person and I believe that in such situations the best, the right, and the most effective thing should be done in order to reduce the number of victims. We, the people, when we drive cars, every time we get into the car, we accept the fact that for various reasons an accident can occur and we, or our loved ones, God forbid, or the people in the oncoming car, may suffer.
There is no country in the world where there are no accidents. We simply have to do something to reduce their number. In a Scandinavian country, they have done something that we can implement and thus save human lives. They have installed breathalyzers for drivers in all public transport vehicles.
We live in modern times, the breathalyzers in question are connected to the car's computer, the driver sits in the driver's seat, inflates the breathalyzer, the computer recognizes that the driver has not drunk and allows him to start the car. If the driver has drunk, the computer blocks the car and the driver cannot start it at all. In this way, the driver of every bus or every taxi, if we apply this technology, every driver who has drunk will not be able to go out on the road and kill himself, the people he is driving or the people he will collide with.
Here is something that the state can do within a very short time. The Minister of Transport, Mr. Karadjov, shares this idea and this is wonderful, and he intends to make it mandatory on school buses. And what's more - anyone who is caught after drinking alcohol, after serving their sentence, will be able to drive only after installing such a device in their personal car. And will never be able to drive again without such a device.
I sincerely hope that the entire Government, the Prime Minister and the entire state apparatus will take action to implement this idea.
If there is a need for legal changes, the deputies from "There are such people" will draft them, submit them to Parliament and will be guaranteed to vote on them. Whatever depends on me, I will do it and I sincerely hope that all political forces in the current Parliament will support this idea, because nothing better has been invented in the world at the moment, and the countries that have implemented it as a prevention have saved many lives of their own citizens.
We cannot stop people from drinking, but we can stop them from driving when they have drunk.
