Bulgaria and South Korea discussed the modernization of our army

Minister of Defense Atanas Zapryanov and the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea H.E. Dong-bae Kim discussed bilateral cooperation in the field of defense and current issues from the security environment in Europe and Asia at a meeting today, April 24. The two united in the view that our countries, although placed in different geostrategic contexts, are facing common challenges and in this regard there is significant potential for the future development of relations between Bulgaria and Korea in the field of defense.

During the talks, the possibilities for defense-industrial cooperation, projects for the modernization of the Bulgarian Army and ways to counter cyberattacks were discussed. Particular emphasis was placed on the assistance provided by Bulgaria and Korea to Ukraine, with both countries categorically stating that they will continue to provide support for the protection of the sovereignty of the state and the security of the Ukrainian people as long as necessary.

Minister Zapryanov emphasized that the excellent ties and warm relations between Bulgaria and Korea are the basis for a good partnership both in a bilateral format and in the context of NATO initiatives. He invited Korean defense industry companies to participate in the International Exhibition of Defense Products and Services "Hemus", which will be held in Bulgaria in 2026.
